AS5600 Magnetic Encoder Angle Sensor Module - 12-bit I2C
AS5600 Magnetic Encoder Angle Sensor Module – 12-bit I2C
The AS5600 is a magnetic rotary position sensor that detects the absolute angle of a diametrically magnetized magnet placed above its surface. It outputs angle data over an I2C interface with 12-bit resolution and also provides an analog or PWM signal for direct angle readout. This contactless design eliminates mechanical wear, making it ideal for motor shaft feedback, knob interfaces, and joint angle sensing in robotics.

What You Can Build With This
- Motor position feedback loop for precise servo control
- Contactless rotary knob or volume controller with digital readout
- Joint angle sensor for robotic arms or pan/tilt mechanisms
- Wind vane or steering angle indicator for RC vehicles
Compatibility
Works with any microcontroller supporting I2C, including Arduino Uno/Nano/Mega, ESP32, ESP8266, STM32, and Raspberry Pi. The module operates at 3.3V logic but is 5V tolerant on the I2C lines. Common pairings include NEMA 17 stepper motors with a magnet mounted on the shaft for closed-loop control.
Wiring Notes
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V, GND to ground, SDA and SCL to the I2C pins of your microcontroller. The board includes onboard pull-up resistors, but for longer wires add external 4.7kΩ pull-ups on both lines. Keep the magnet centered above the AS5600 chip at a distance of 0.5–2mm for reliable readings.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino Uno?
Yes, the AS5600 module works with Arduino Uno using the I2C interface (A4/SDA, A5/SCL). You can use libraries like AS5600 by Rob Tillaart to read angles instantly.
Do I need a special magnet for this sensor?
A standard diametrically magnetized disc magnet (6–8mm diameter) is required. The sensor measures the magnetic field orientation, so the magnet must be placed directly above the chip with the correct polarity.
Can it output an analog voltage instead of I2C?
Yes, the OUT pin provides an analog voltage proportional to angle (0–VDD) or a PWM signal. The output mode is configurable via I2C or by setting the onboard solder jumper.
