IR Obstacle Avoidance Sensor Module LM393 Photoelectric Sensor
IR Obstacle Avoidance Sensor Module - LM393 Photoelectric Sensor Module
This module pairs an infrared emitter with a photoelectric receiver to detect objects directly in its path. The onboard LM393 comparator converts the reflected signal into a clean digital output. Use it for collision detection, proximity switching, or edge following on any microcontroller board.

What You Can Build With This
- Obstacle-avoiding wheeled robot using two sensors for left/right detection
- Contactless object counter on a conveyor belt or doorway
- Proximity alarm that triggers when someone approaches a restricted area
- Smart dustbin lid that opens automatically when a hand is detected
Compatibility
Works with any development board that reads a digital input: Arduino Uno, Mega, Nano, ESP8266, ESP32, Raspberry Pi (with logic level shifting), STM32, and similar. Output signal drives a 5V or 3.3V logic pin directly; an onboard LED gives visual indication of detection.
Wiring Notes
Connect VCC to 5V (or 3.3V for low-voltage boards), GND to common ground, and OUT to any digital I/O pin. The potentiometer adjusts sensitivity — turn clockwise for longer range. Keep the emitter and receiver unobstructed; dust or glare can affect readings. Sinking current on OUT is limited to 20mA, so do not drive a relay or motor directly.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino Uno?
Yes, connect VCC to 5V, GND to GND, and OUT to a digital pin such as D2. Read the pin as INPUT, and you will see LOW when an obstacle is detected.
Can the detection range exceed 30cm?
Under ideal conditions (dark, non-reflective background) it can sometimes reach 40cm, but reliable detection is within 2-30cm. The range also depends on the color and surface of the object.
What does the output pin show when no obstacle is present?
The OUT pin stays HIGH (near VCC) when no reflection is received. It drops LOW when the sensor detects a reflected IR signal above the threshold set by the potentiometer.
