LoRa Store and Forward Node
Arduino Nano LoRa Store-and-Forward Node Kit: Solar-Powered, Uninterruptible Data Relay
Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.
Build a standalone LoRa relay node capable of queuing sensor messages onto a microSD card when the gateway connection drops, then automatically forwarding the backlog once the link is restored. This project is ideal for remote environmental monitoring, smart agriculture, and off-grid IoT deployments where reliable delivery matters more than real-time. The solar-powered, weatherproof design ensures continuous operation far from mains power.
What You'll Build
A waterproof, solar-powered LoRa relay node that reads data from a remote sensor network. When the gateway is within range, it relays messages live; if the gateway goes offline, it timestamps and stores messages on a microSD card with real-time clock accuracy. Once the link reestablishes, the node transmits all queued data in correct chronological order — no data loss, no manual intervention.
What You'll Learn
- Write fail-safe LoRa message handling with acknowledgement checks to trigger store-and-forward behaviour
- Use DS3231 real-time clock to timestamp each stored message for accurate chronological replay
- Implement non-blocking microSD file operations for sequential logging and reading without halting the node
- Design a solar-rechargeable power subsystem with LiPo battery and TP4056 charge controller for perpetual off-grid use

Who This Kit Is For
This kit is designed for final-year engineering students (B.Tech ECE/EEE) working on IoT-based thesis projects, participants in Smart India Hackathon building disaster-resilient communication systems, and researchers prototyping long-range environmental monitoring in remote locales. It's also suitable for ATL mentors guiding advanced tinkering on wireless sensor networks at IIT, NIT, VIT, or BITS campuses.
Built and Backed by Compoden
Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.
What if I get stuck during the build?
Scan the QR code to access the AI build companion trained on the LoRa node's schematic and code. It can diagnose wiring or logic issues step by step. For quick help, WhatsApp our support team for direct guidance.
Can this node work with LoRaWAN gateways?
This kit uses raw LoRa modulation between two RA-02 modules, not LoRaWAN. The store-and-forward logic is designed for point-to-point relay; adapting it to LoRaWAN would require a different firmware stack beyond the kit's scope.
How long will the solar-powered node run without sunlight?
The 3.7V 1000mAh LiPo battery powers the node for 12-18 hours of continuous operation depending on transmission frequency. The 1W solar panel recharges it within 4-6 hours of good sunlight, ensuring indefinite off-grid uptime.
What range can I expect from the LoRa modules?
In open line-of-sight with the included 433MHz antennas, expect 2-3 km at low data rates. In urban areas, range drops to 500-800 metres. Adjusting spreading factor and transmit power can trade range for throughput.
LoRa relay stores messages to SD when gateway is unreachable. Forwards queued messages when link restores.
