Noise Pollution Logger Pro Kit with ESP32 & OLED: Real-Time Spectrum Analyzer

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Intermediate Build Time: 3-4 hrs Age: 15-18 Skill: Digital Signal Processing & FFT Implementation

Transform an ESP32-S3 into a professional-grade noise pollution logger that captures live audio, performs a 512-point Fast Fourier Transform, and displays a vibrant 16-band frequency spectrum on an OLED screen at 30 frames per second. Ideal for environmental science projects, campus noise audits, or understanding the physics of sound in a tangible, code-level way.

What You'll Build

A battery-operable real-time sound spectrum analyzer with a sharp 0.96-inch OLED. You'll be able to visualize ambient noise across 16 finely tuned frequency bands, log raw spectrum data via serial USB for further analysis, and immediately spot noise peaks in classrooms, traffic junctions, or industrial zones-turning abstract decibel numbers into a moving, readable display.

What You'll Learn

  • Capturing high-quality audio with an I2S MEMS microphone (INMP441) on ESP32
  • Implementing a 512-point FFT using the ESP32-S3's vector extensions for real-time signal processing
  • Driving a monochrome OLED display to render a 16-band spectrum at a smooth 30fps
  • Interpreting frequency-domain data for environmental noise assessment and pattern recognition

Who This Kit Is For

Ideal for CBSE Class 11-12 students building physics or environmental monitoring projects, B.Tech ECE/EEE undergraduates exploring real-time DSP, and participants in Smart India Hackathon or ATL Tinkering Lab challenges that need a portable noise logger. Hobbyists and researchers prototyping low-cost sound level meters will also find the pre-integrated FFT pipeline a huge time-saver.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project - accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Scan the QR code inside the box to access your AI build companion trained on this exact project, or reach us on WhatsApp for human support within hours.

Can this kit measure absolute decibel (dBA) levels?

The kit performs relative spectrum analysis. Converting raw FFT bins to calibrated dBA requires a reference microphone and enclosure, which you can add later. The included code gives you the raw magnitude data needed for calibration.

Can I log the spectrum data over Wi-Fi or save it to an SD card?

Out of the box, the kit streams spectrum data via serial USB. The ESP32-S3's Wi-Fi module is fully accessible-you can extend the firmware to post JSON data to cloud platforms like ThingSpeak or integrate an external SD card module for offline logging.

Is soldering required?

No. All connections are made using the included 400-point breadboard and male-to-male jumper wires. The components have header pins pre-soldered or are breadboard-friendly.

Environmental - INMP441 I2S mic on ESP32-S3 vector unit does 512-point FFT. 16-band spectrum on OLED at 30fps.
