BM612 Digital PIR Sensor – Adjustable Motion Detection Module
BM612 Digital PIR Motion Sensor – 5V, Adjustable Delay & Sensitivity
The BM612 is a digital passive infrared (PIR) sensor module that detects motion by sensing changes in infrared radiation from moving objects. It outputs a clean digital high signal when motion is detected, making it ideal for microcontroller-based security systems, automatic lighting, and IoT projects. With onboard potentiometers for delay and sensitivity adjustment, you can fine-tune its behaviour to avoid false triggers.

What You Can Build With This
- Automatic room light controller that switches on when you enter
- Low-cost burglar alarm with Arduino and a buzzer
- Motion-activated wildlife camera using an ESP32-CAM
- Contactless doorbell or entrance alert system
Compatibility
The BM612 works with any microcontroller that can read a digital input, including Arduino Uno, Nano, ESP8266, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi Pico. Its output is 3.3V logic, so it connects safely to 3.3V boards without level shifting. For 5V Arduino boards, the 3.3V output still reads as a valid high. It pairs well with relay modules for switching mains-powered devices.
Wiring Notes
Connect VCC to 5V, GND to GND, and OUT to any digital pin on your microcontroller. No external pull-up resistor is needed. If driving a relay directly, place a 10KΩ resistor between OUT and the relay base to limit current. Avoid placing the sensor near heat sources or windows to minimize false triggers.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Raspberry Pi?
Yes, the BM612 output is 3.3V logic and can connect directly to a Raspberry Pi GPIO pin. Use a simple Python script to monitor the pin state and trigger actions.
How do I adjust sensitivity and delay?
Turn the two orange potentiometers on the board using a small screwdriver. One adjusts sensitivity (clockwise for more sensitive), the other sets the time the output stays high after motion stops (5 to 300 seconds).
Can it detect motion through glass?
No, PIR sensors cannot detect infrared changes through glass because glass blocks most infrared wavelengths. Place it in an open area for reliable detection.
