HC-SR505 Mini PIR Motion Sensor Module | 3-15V, 3m Range
HC-SR505 Mini Infrared PIR Motion Sensor Module – 3-15V, 3m Detection
The HC-SR505 is a compact pyroelectric infrared (PIR) motion sensor module designed for human detection. It outputs a TTL high signal when movement is detected within its 3-meter, 100-degree conical field of view. With a wide operating voltage range and ultra-low standby current, it's ideal for battery-powered security, automation, and IoT projects.

What You Can Build With This
- Motion-activated night light
- Intruder alarm system
- Automatic door or gate opener
- Room occupancy counter for energy saving
Compatibility
The HC-SR505 works with any microcontroller or single-board computer that accepts 3.3V logic, including Arduino Uno, ESP32, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi. Even when powered by 5V, its output remains a safe 3.3V level, so no level shifting is required for 3.3V devices. It can drive a digital input pin directly.
Wiring Notes
Connect VCC to a 3–15V supply, GND to common ground, and OUT to any digital I/O pin. For stable operation, add a 10µF electrolytic capacitor across VCC and GND near the sensor. The output goes high for about 8 seconds upon detecting motion; no external pull-up is needed.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino?
Yes, connect VCC to 5V (or 3.3V), GND to GND, and OUT to any digital pin. The output is 3.3V logic and safe for Arduino inputs.
Can it detect motion through walls or glass?
No, PIR sensors require direct line-of-sight infrared radiation; they cannot detect through solid barriers. For hidden installations, use a sensor with an external lens or mount it behind an IR-transparent window.
What's the difference between HC-SR505 and HC-SR501?
The HC-SR505 is smaller, has a fixed delay of about 8 seconds, and no sensitivity trimmer. The HC-SR501 is larger, adjustable via two potentiometers, and often used for more flexible applications.
