GT-521F32 Finger Print Sensor Module – Optical UART | Compoden
GT-521F32 Finger Print Sensor Module
The GT-521F32 is an optical fingerprint sensor module with a built-in fingerprint algorithm and flash storage for up to 200 fingerprints. It connects via UART to microcontrollers like Arduino or ESP32, making it straightforward to add biometric authentication to access control, attendance, and security projects.

What You Can Build With This
- Biometric door lock with Arduino and a solenoid
- Employee attendance system logging to an SD card
- Two-factor authentication for a Raspberry Pi kiosk
- Secure safe or drawer lock with an ESP32 and Blynk app
Compatibility
The module works with any microcontroller that has a UART interface running at 3.3V or 5V logic levels. Tested with Arduino Uno, Mega, Nano, ESP8266, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi (using a level shifter if necessary). The standard baud rate is 9600 bps.
Wiring Notes
Connect VCC to 3.3V or 5V, GND to ground, TX on the sensor to RX on the microcontroller, and RX on the sensor to TX on the microcontroller. The sensor draws about 65 mA during scanning, so avoid powering it from a 3.3V regulator that cannot supply at least 150 mA.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino Uno?
Yes. Use the SoftwareSerial library to connect the sensor’s TX to pin 2 and RX to pin 3. The GT-521F32 operates at 3.3V logic but is 5V tolerant, so direct connection works.
How many fingerprints can the module store?
The onboard flash stores up to 200 fingerprint templates. Each template is about 512 bytes, and the sensor’s algorithm handles enrollment and matching locally.
Does it work with Raspberry Pi?
Yes. Connect UART pins directly, but use a voltage divider or level shifter on the TX from the Pi (3.3V) to the sensor (5V tolerant). Enable serial port in raspi-config and use Python libraries like PyFingerprint.
