Aquarium Temperature Monitor Kit – ESP32-Driven Servo Vent for Attic Cooling

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Advanced Build Time: 10-12 hrs Age: 25+ Skill: IoT Automation & Differential Control

In an Indian summer, an attic room can cross 45 °C, overheating your aquarium water and stressing its inhabitants. Instead of running an AC or chiller, this kit lets you build a smart vent that opens the moment the attic temperature rises above the outdoor reading. Three DS18B20 probes track the water, attic air, and outside environment; the ESP32 then drives two SG90 servos to open a louvered vent proportionally. Cool outside air flows in naturally, stabilising the tank without constant human intervention.

What You'll Build

You assemble a complete control module inside the provided enclosure. The ESP32 reads temperature from each waterproof DS18B20 probe — one submerged in the aquarium, one in the attic near the tank, and one outdoors. A 0.96‑inch OLED displays real-time readings, while the DS3231 RTC stamps every data point onto a microSD card for later analysis. When the attic‑outdoor temperature difference exceeds a threshold, the ESP32 sends PWM signals to the servos, opening the vent. The logic is proportional: a small differential opens the vent slightly; a large one opens it fully. The LM2596 buck converter steps down the 12 V adapter output, and all components are soldered onto prototype boards for reliability.

What You'll Learn

  • Read multiple DS18B20 sensors using the OneWire protocol on an ESP32
  • Implement proportional control logic to actuate an SG90 servo based on temperature differential
  • Log timestamped sensor data onto a microSD card by interfacing a DS3231 RTC
  • Integrate an OLED display and design a functional enclosure for humid attic environments

Who This Kit Is For

Advanced DIYers, B.Tech ECE/EEE final‑year students building home automation projects, and Smart India Hackathon participants tackling energy‑efficient systems will find this kit ideal. If you maintain an aquarium in an attic, loft, or converted terrace room — common in Indian homes — the build directly addresses a real problem with measurable energy savings. Familiarity with soldering and basic Arduino IDE usage is assumed.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Scan the QR code for the AI companion that shows wiring diagrams, code walkthroughs, and debugging steps. Our WhatsApp support also replies within 2 hours during working days.

Can I monitor the data remotely or get alerts?

Yes, the ESP32 Wi‑Fi allows you to add a Blynk or Arduino IoT Cloud dashboard. The AI companion includes optional code snippets for remote monitoring and push notifications.

How do I mechanically connect the servos to a vent?

The kit includes two SG90 servos and mounting hardware. You can 3D‑print a simple louver arm using the STL files linked in the guide, or attach the servos to an existing flap with zip ties and a horn extender.

Are the DS18B20 probes safe for direct aquarium water contact?

Yes, the probes are fully sealed in stainless steel and waterproof. We recommend sealing the cable‑to‑probe joint with aquarium‑safe silicone if it will be submerged permanently, but the probe itself is rated for continuous immersion.

Aquarium — DS18B20 in attic + DS18B20 outside compare temperatures. Opens servo vent when attic hotter than outside.
