Build Your Own Benchtop Component Tester & LCR Meter with Arduino Mega

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Intermediate Build Time: 5-6 hrs Age: 15-18 Skill: Component Identification & Measurement Techniques

Tired of squinting at tiny colour bands or hunting for datasheets? This kit lets you build a benchtop instrument that instantly identifies resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, and diodes — and displays their value and type on a crisp 1.8-inch TFT screen. No more guesswork when sorting a mixed bag of components; just drop the part into the ZIF socket, and the auto-detection firmware does the rest.

What You'll Build

You will assemble and calibrate a fully functional automatic component tester. Once built, you'll own a reliable bench tool that reads LCR values, distinguishes NPN from PNP transistors, and shows pinouts on screen. It’s perfect for organising your workshop inventory or verifying salvaged components before using them in projects.

What You'll Learn

  • Interfacing the AD9833 signal generator and ADS1115 ADC with Arduino Mega to capture precise measurements
  • Implementing auto-ranging LCR algorithms that automatically select test frequency and mode
  • Auto-detection logic to classify resistors, capacitors, inductors, transistors, and diodes
  • Calibrating a benchtop instrument for accurate impedance and gain readings

Who This Kit Is For

Designed for B.Tech ECE/EEE students setting up their first electronics workbench, polytechnic lab trainees needing a reliable component identification tool, and DIY hobbyists tired of manual multimeter checks. Perfect for CBSE Class 12 physics project demonstrations or as a capstone build for Smart India Hackathon hardware prototypes.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Scan the QR code on the box to launch the AI build companion, which walks you through every solder joint and calibration step. You can also message us on WhatsApp for direct help from our engineers.

Can it identify SMD components?

The ZIF socket is designed for through-hole and larger SMD components with adapter leads. For tiny 0402 or 0603 parts, you may need a separate SMD adapter, but all common through-hole and large SOT packages are supported.

What is the measurement accuracy?

After proper calibration, resistance accuracy is within ±1% for values 10Ω to 1MΩ, capacitance within ±2% for 1nF to 1000μF, and inductance ±3% for 10μH to 10H. The ADS1115 16-bit ADC ensures fine resolution.

Do I need any external tools for calibration?

No. The kit includes calibration routines built into the firmware. You'll use the provided precision resistors and capacitors as reference values to zero out offsets, all done through the on-screen menu.

Identifies resistors, caps, inductors, transistors and diodes automatically. Shows value and type on TFT.
