M18 Photoelectric Proximity Sensor PNP NO - Compoden
M18 Photoelectric Proximity Sensor - PNP NO Output
This M18 cylindrical photoelectric sensor provides non-contact object detection using infrared light. With a PNP normally open (NO) output, it switches the load to the positive supply when an object is detected within its adjustable sensing range. It is commonly used in assembly lines, packaging machines, and robotics for reliable position sensing.

What You Can Build With This
- Conveyor belt object counter
- Automatic door or gate trigger
- Liquid level detection in opaque tanks
- Assembly line part presence verification
Compatibility
This sensor works with any 10-30V DC power system, including industrial PLCs, microcontrollers like Arduino or ESP32 (with a voltage divider or level shifter for input pin protection), and single-board computers like Raspberry Pi via optocoupler or relay module. It pairs well with NPN-to-PNP converters if your controller expects NPN input.
Wiring Notes
Standard wire colors: brown for +V, blue for ground, black for signal output. The load (or pull-down resistor if interfacing with a microcontroller) should be connected between the black wire and ground. Ensure the load current does not exceed 200 mA.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino?
Yes, but the output signal is 10-30V, so you must use a voltage divider or level shifter to protect the Arduino's 5V input pin. Never connect the black wire directly to an Arduino pin.
What is the sensing range?
The sensing distance is adjustable from approximately 5 cm to 30 cm for a white object. Dark or matte surfaces may reduce the maximum range.
Can it detect transparent objects?
Standard diffuse sensors struggle with transparent materials. For reliable detection, consider a retroreflective or through-beam sensor.
