SW520D Ball Tilt Sensor – 15° Tilt Switch
SW520D Ball Tilt Sensor – 15° Angle Detection
The SW520D is a non-mercury ball tilt switch that closes its circuit when tilted beyond approximately 15° from horizontal. It is used in orientation sensing, motion detection, and simple automation tasks. Its compact size and low current draw make it ideal for battery-powered projects.

What You Can Build With This
- Tilt-activated alarm for doors or boxes
- Robot upset detection to halt motors
- Wearable step counter using tilt pulses
- Digital level tool with LED indicators
Compatibility
This switch works with any microcontroller that can read a digital input, including Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. Connect one leg to ground and the other to a digital pin configured with an internal pull‑up resistor. It handles both 5 V and 3.3 V logic levels.
Wiring Notes
Solder one pin to GND and the other to a digital input pin. Enable the microcontroller's internal pull‑up on that pin. When tilted, the switch closes and the pin reads LOW. No external resistor is needed for basic operation.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino Uno?
Yes. Connect one pin to GND and the other to any digital pin (e.g., pin 2) with pinMode set to INPUT_PULLUP. The pin will read LOW when tilted.
How sensitive is the tilt angle?
The switch activates at roughly 15° off horizontal. It is best used for coarse tilt detection; for precise angle measurement consider an accelerometer module.
Is this switch normally open or closed?
The SW520D is normally open when upright. It closes the circuit only when tilted past its activation angle.
