BMP280 Pressure and Temperature Sensor Module (Barometer)

The BMP280 is a digital barometric pressure and temperature sensor module based on Bosch's BMP280 chip. It measures atmospheric pressure from 300 hPa to 1100 hPa and temperature from -40°C to +85°C, providing accurate altitude estimation. Ideal for weather monitoring, drone altitude hold, and indoor navigation systems.

Key Specifications

Specification Value
Supply Voltage 3.3V – 5V DC (onboard regulator)
Pressure Range 300 – 1100 hPa
Temperature Range -40°C to +85°C
Interface I2C (0x76/0x77) and SPI
Resolution 0.16 Pa (pressure), 0.01°C (temperature)
Accuracy ±1 hPa (relative pressure), ±0.5°C

What You Can Build With This

Compatibility

The BMP280 module works with Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, and any microcontroller supporting I2C or SPI. It operates at 3.3V logic but accepts 5V on Vin when using the onboard regulator, with I2C pull-up resistors typically included. Compatible libraries such as Adafruit BMP280 and SparkFun BMP280 simplify integration.

Wiring Notes

Connect VCC to 3.3V (or 5V if the module supports), GND to GND, SCL to I2C clock, and SDA to I2C data. If using SPI, wire CSB, SCK, SDI, and SDO. The sensor draws under 1 mA, so a stable supply is sufficient. Avoid exceeding 3.6V on data pins without level shifting. The default I2C address is 0x76; check the solder jumper on the back of the module to change to 0x77.

Why Buy from Compoden

Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.

Is this compatible with Arduino?

Yes, it works with all Arduino boards that have I2C, such as Uno, Nano, and Mega. Use the Adafruit BMP280 library for quick setup.

What is the difference between BMP280 and BME280?

The BMP280 measures pressure and temperature only. The BME280 adds humidity sensing. If you only need pressure and temperature, BMP280 is a cost-effective choice.

Can this sensor be used outdoors?

Yes, with a weatherproof enclosure. The operating range of -40°C to +85°C covers most outdoor conditions. Keep the sensor shielded from direct moisture and dust for reliable readings.
