Float Sensor Switch for Water Level Controller - Compoden
Float Sensor Switch For Water Level Controller
A magnetic reed float switch that detects liquid levels in tanks and reservoirs. It closes a circuit when the float rises with water level, making it ideal for automatic pump control, overfill prevention, and level monitoring with microcontrollers like Arduino.

What You Can Build With This
- Automatic overhead tank pump controller that starts and stops based on water level.
- Sump overflow alarm system using an Arduino to send alerts when water reaches a danger level.
- Aquarium auto top-off device to maintain water level by triggering a small pump.
- Rainwater harvesting monitor that logs tank levels to the cloud via ESP32.
Compatibility
This float switch outputs a simple closed/open signal, working with any microcontroller that reads digital inputs, such as Arduino Uno, ESP8266, and Raspberry Pi Pico. Use a 5V–12V DC supply for signal circuits. Always add a 10kΩ pull-down resistor from the input pin to GND to prevent floating readings when the switch is open.
Wiring Notes
Connect one wire of the float switch to a digital input pin and the other to GND. Place a 10kΩ pull-down resistor between the input pin and GND so the pin reads LOW when the switch is open. When the float rises and closes the circuit, the pin goes HIGH. The switch is rated for signals only—use a relay module if you need to drive a pump or motor.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino?
Yes, connect one wire to a digital pin with a 10kΩ pull-down resistor to GND, and the other wire to GND. Use digitalRead() to detect water level—HIGH means the float is up and the switch is closed.
Can this switch directly control a water pump?
No, the contacts are rated for 0.5A maximum, which is too low for most pumps. It should be used as a sensor to trigger a relay, MOSFET, or motor driver that handles the pump’s current.
Is the switch normally open or normally closed?
This float sensor is normally open (NO). The circuit closes when the float rises with water level. If you need a normally closed behavior, you can invert the logic in your code or wire a pull-up resistor instead.
