Custom Wake Word Offline Voice Switch Kit with ESP32 + Relay
Custom Wake Word Offline Voice Switch Kit — Build a Speech-Controlled Relay with ESP32-S3, No Cloud Required
Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.
Imagine walking into a room and saying “Hey Compoden” to turn on the lights, fans, or any appliance — completely offline, with zero latency, and without sending your voice to any server. This kit puts you in control of voice-activated automation using the powerful ESP32-S3 and Espressif’s WakeNet neural network. You’ll train a custom wake word on your laptop, flash it to the board, and watch the relay toggle instantly when you speak.
What You'll Build
You’ll assemble a compact voice switch that listens for a specific wake word you define — like “Jarvis”, “Computer”, or your own name. When detected, the ESP32-S3 triggers a 5V relay module, letting you switch a light, fan, or any low-voltage device. The kit includes everything except a USB power source, so you can prototype your own voice-controlled appliance in just a few hours.
What You'll Learn
- Train and deploy a custom wake word using Espressif WakeNet on an ESP32-S3
- Interface an I2S digital MEMS microphone for high-quality audio capture
- Wire a relay module with flyback diode protection for small AC/DC loads
- Debug and monitor speech recognition events via serial monitor

Who This Kit Is For
Designed for students stepping into embedded AI and voice interfaces. Ideal for CBSE Class 11–12 computer science/electronics projects, ATL Tinkering Lab innovators, or first-year B.Tech ECE/EEE students exploring speech recognition. Also a solid prototyping base for Smart India Hackathon teams needing a quick offline voice trigger.
Built and Backed by Compoden
Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We’ve spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

Can I train a wake word in Hindi or my native language?
Absolutely. Espressif’s WakeNet framework supports any language phonemes. You simply record multiple samples of your chosen word (in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, or any regional language) and run the training tool on your laptop before uploading to the ESP32-S3.
Does this kit require soldering?
Not at all. Every component plugs into the included 400-point breadboard using jumper wires. The relay module has screw terminals and pin headers, so even connecting an appliance cable can be done without a soldering iron.
Can I connect this to a 230V AC appliance?
The 5V relay module is rated for up to 10A at 250V AC, so it can switch a mains-powered light or fan. However, handling mains voltage is dangerous. We strongly recommend starting with a battery-operated LED lamp. If you need to connect mains, always involve an adult and use proper insulation, enclosures, and safety precautions.
ESP32-S3 runs Espressif WakeNet to detect a custom wake word and toggle a relay — no cloud, no latency.
