Industrial Bin Level Monitor Robot Kit – Build an Autonomous Obstacle-Avoiding Robot with Arduino Uno

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Beginner Build Time: 3-4 hrs Age: 15-18 Skill: Potential Field Navigation & Obstacle Avoidance

Autonomous robots in warehouses and factories don’t just follow lines — they react to their surroundings in real time. With this kit, you’ll assemble a mobile robot that uses three ultrasonic sensors to sense its environment and a potential field algorithm to steer clear of obstacles, the same reactive navigation logic behind many automated guided vehicles. It’s your entry point into industrial inventory robotics, and the finished bot can later be extended to monitor bin levels by adding downward-looking sensors.

What You'll Build

You’ll construct a differential-drive robot on a 2WD chassis, powered by rechargeable 18650 cells. Three HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors mounted at the front and sides give 180-degree coverage. The Arduino Uno runs a potential field algorithm — it computes an attractive force towards a goal (or free space) and repulsive forces from detected obstacles, then fuses them into smooth steering commands sent via the L298N motor driver. By the end, you’ll have a robot that wanders intelligently without hitting walls, chairs, or workshop clutter — a platform ready for your own inventory monitoring add-ons.

What You'll Learn

  • Write Arduino code to read three HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors simultaneously and fuse their distance data
  • Implement a potential field algorithm for real-time reactive obstacle avoidance
  • Interface the L298N motor driver to control TT gear motors for differential steering
  • Calibrate sensor thresholds and tune robot behaviour for smooth, collision-free navigation

Who This Kit Is For

CBSE Class 11-12 students can use it as a science fair-ready autonomous robotics demonstration. B.Tech ECE/EEE undergraduates will find it perfect for mini projects on obstacle avoidance algorithms and reactive control. Smart India Hackathon participants building inventory drones or AGVs can prototype the navigation logic, and ATL Tinkering Labs get a no-solder platform to teach potential fields and embedded C.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

The included AI build companion walks you through wiring, code upload, and debugging. You can also reach us on WhatsApp for real-time help.

Does the kit include a guide for programming the potential field algorithm?

The AI companion provides complete Arduino code examples with line-by-line explanation of how attraction and repulsion forces are calculated and mapped to motor speeds.

Can I upgrade the robot to monitor bin fill levels?

Absolutely. The chassis and microcontroller can support additional sensors pointed downwards; the AI companion will suggest mounting positions and sample code modifications.

Is soldering required?

No. All connections use the included jumper wires and screw terminals — everything is plug-and-play.

Industrial Inventory — Potential field algorithm on Arduino steers robot away from obstacles detected by ultrasonic sensor — reactive navigation.
