Arduino Hiking Weather Logger Kit
HVAC Performance Monitor Kit v5 - Arduino Hiking Weather Station & Elevation Profiler
Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.
Turn every outdoor trek into a scientific expedition. This kit lets you build a battery-powered data logger that records temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and GPS coordinates as you hike. Back home, pull the microSD card and plot a vivid elevation profile - your trail visualised through hard atmospheric data. Whether you're a student mapping local hills or a maker testing environmental sensors in motion, this project delivers field-ready results without weeks of trial and error.
What You'll Build
A handheld, GPS-synchronised weather recorder that writes a timestamped CSV log of temperature, humidity, pressure, latitude, longitude, and altitude onto a microSD card. On the 0.96-inch OLED, see live readings scrolling as you move. After the hike, transfer the file to a computer and generate an elevation-vs-time graph using the barometric pressure data - exactly what mountaineers and building-performance auditors do, now in your hands.
What You'll Learn
- Interface multiple I2C devices (BMP280, DS3231 RTC, OLED) on a single Arduino bus
- Parse NMEA sentences from a NEO-6M GPS module to extract latitude, longitude, and altitude
- Log sensor data to a microSD card in CSV format with precise timestamps from the DS3231
- Transform raw pressure readings into elevation and produce a hiking profile graph using Python or Excel

Who This Kit Is For
Originally built around the HVAC-grade sensor duo of BMP280 and DHT22, this kit speaks equally to two worlds. For CBSE Class 11-12 and B.Tech ECE/EEE students, it's a ready-made data-logging project that satisfies physics and micro-controller lab requirements. Smart India Hackathon and ATL Tinkering Lab participants can deploy it as a portable environmental monitor in minutes. And for IIT, NIT, VIT, or BITS aspirants who love the outdoors, it fuses hiking with hands-on engineering - no soldering, no guesswork.
Built and Backed by Compoden
Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project - accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.
What if I get stuck during the build?
Scan the QR code on the box to chat with the AI build companion; it walks you through wiring, code, and debugging. WhatsApp support is also available if you need a human touch.
Can I use this kit for a stationary weather station instead of hiking?
Absolutely. Power it via USB instead of a 9V battery, mount the sensors outdoors, and the same code will log data indefinitely. You still get the full GPS and elevation capabilities for later mapping.
How do I create the elevation profile graph from the logged data?
The microSD card stores a CSV file with timestamp, altitude, and pressure. We supply a simple Python script (and Excel template) that reads the file and plots an interactive elevation profile. No coding experience required for the Excel version.
Does the GPS work if I'm hiking in a dense forest or deep valley?
The NEO-6M module needs a clear view of the sky to get a satellite fix. Dense canopy or steep gorges may reduce accuracy intermittently. For best results, initialise the GPS in an open area before you start recording; once locked, it will re-acquire quickly when signal returns.
