DS18B20 Original Temperature Sensor – Accurate Digital Thermometer
DS18B20 Original Temperature Sensor – Digital Thermometer IC
The DS18B20 is a digital temperature sensor from Maxim Integrated that communicates over a 1-Wire interface. It provides 9-bit to 12-bit Celsius temperature measurements and has a wide operating range from -55°C to +125°C with ±0.5°C accuracy from -10°C to +85°C. Its unique 64-bit serial code allows multiple sensors to be connected on the same data line, making it ideal for distributed sensing applications.

What You Can Build With This
- DIY weather station with multiple outdoor sensors
- Home thermostat using Arduino and a relay
- Industrial process monitoring with Raspberry Pi
- Temperature logger with SD card storage
Compatibility
The DS18B20 works with any 3.3V or 5V microcontroller board, including Arduino Uno, Mega, Nano, ESP8266, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi. It requires only one digital pin for communication and can share the bus with other 1-Wire devices. The sensor is often used with the DallasTemperature or OneWire libraries in Arduino IDE.
Wiring Notes
Connect the VDD pin to 3.3V or 5V, GND to ground, and the DQ (data) pin to any digital I/O on your microcontroller. A 4.7kΩ pull-up resistor between DQ and VDD is required for reliable operation. For long cable runs, consider using a shielded twisted-pair cable and a lower resistance value.
Why Buy from Compoden
Every component is sourced from verified suppliers and tested for compatibility before listing. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. Ships from Bengaluru in 3-5 days. If defective on arrival, replace within 7 days.
Is this compatible with Arduino?
Yes, the DS18B20 is fully compatible with Arduino boards. Simply connect it to a digital pin, use a 4.7k pull-up resistor, and install the DallasTemperature library. Multiple sensors can share the same pin.
Can I use this sensor without external power?
The DS18B20 supports parasitic power mode where it draws power from the data line. However, for temperatures above 100°C or when using long wires, external power is recommended to ensure stable operation.
Is this the waterproof version?
This is the original TO-92 package sensor, not the pre-assembled waterproof probe. You can easily waterproof it yourself using heat shrink tubing and silicone sealant if needed for wet environments.
