AC Power Quality Recorder Kit with Arduino Mega — Catch Every Voltage Event Before It Damages Your Equipment

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Beginner Build Time: 3-4 hrs Age: 15-18 Skill: AC signal sampling and data logging

Flickering lights? Unexplained appliance shutdowns? Your AC mains aren't always as clean as the utility promises. This kit puts a precision ZMPT101B voltage sensor on your wall socket, sampling 50 times a second to catch voltage sags, swells, and total interruptions as they happen. The Arduino Mega logs every event to a microSD card, stamped with date and time from a DS3231 real-time clock, so you can finally prove that the inverter isn't tripping without reason.

What You'll Build

You'll wire up a full AC voltage data logger that records any deviation beyond safe thresholds. The 0.96-inch OLED shows real-time RMS voltage, event counts, and system status. Later, you can pull the SD card, open the CSV file, and graph every sag and swell that occurred while you were away. It's like a dashcam for your home or lab power.

What You'll Learn

  • How to safely interface an AC voltage sensor with an Arduino Mega using proper isolation techniques
  • Writing interrupt-driven code that samples the ZMPT101B 50 times per second without missing peaks
  • Logging timestamped CSV data to a microSD card via SPI protocol
  • Setting trigger thresholds for voltage sags, swells, and complete interruptions in real-time firmware

Who This Kit Is For

CBSE Class 11-12 students and first-year B.Tech ECE/EEE learners will find this kit directly applicable to their curriculum on AC circuits and data acquisition. ATL Tinkering Lab participants can use it for energy monitoring projects. Even BITS/VIT students working on Smart India Hackathon challenges around power quality will get a working prototype up in an afternoon, not weeks.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Scan the QR code inside the box to open the AI companion. It knows every wire connection and line of code for this kit. You can also send pictures over WhatsApp for a direct human review within hours.

Can this recorder also measure AC current?

This kit focuses on voltage quality only. It does not include a current sensor, but the Arduino Mega has spare analog inputs and the firmware is open. You can later add a CT clamp if you wish to log power factor or apparent power.

Is it safe to connect directly to a 220V wall socket?

The ZMPT101B module provides galvanic isolation via its built-in transformer. You'll connect its input to the mains through a plug, exactly as described in the build guide. Never modify the isolation barrier.

How long can I log data on a standard SD card?

With a 16GB card and CSV entries written only when an event occurs, you can log for months. The firmware writes roughly 100 bytes per event, so even thousands of sags won't fill the card.

ZMPT101B samples voltage at high rate. Logs voltage sags, swells and interruptions to SD with RTC timestamps.
