Greenhouse Climate Monitor Kit v13 — Build a LoRaWAN Sensor Node with Arduino and RA-02 LoRa

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Intermediate Build Time: 4-5 hrs Age: 15-18 Skill: LoRaWAN sensor networking

Create a wireless climate node that continuously pushes temperature, humidity, and pressure data from your greenhouse to a Chirpstack LoRaWAN server. The kit brings together an Arduino Nano and RA-02 LoRa module to form a battery-powered OTAA-activated end device. Data from the DHT22 and BMP280 sensors appears on your server dashboard in real time, giving you a complete remote monitoring solution you built from scratch.

What You'll Build

Assemble and program a compact sensor board that takes readings every few minutes and transmits them over 433 MHz LoRaWAN. Your board joins a Chirpstack server using Over‑the‑Air Activation (OTAA), so no hardcoding of device keys on the server side. Once live, the server decodes the payload and displays the greenhouse climate on any browser.

What You'll Learn

  • LoRaWAN join procedure with OTAA on Chirpstack
  • Constructing and programming a battery‑powered Arduino sensor node
  • Decoding custom sensor payloads in a LoRaWAN network server
  • Through‑hole soldering and PCB prototyping for a field‑ready device

Who This Kit Is For

This kit squarely targets the Indian student and maker community. B.Tech ECE and EEE students can use it for IoT agriculture capstone projects, Smart India Hackathon teams can prototype a precision farming solution within a day, and ATL Tinkering Labs can demonstrate real‑world LoRaWAN sensor networking. CBSE Class 11‑12 physics and computer science students also get hands‑on experience with embedded communication protocols.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Scan the QR code on the box for the AI companion specific to this greenhouse monitor; it guides you through every connection and code block. You can also send a WhatsApp message for a quick tip.

Do I need a LoRaWAN gateway nearby?

Yes, the kit transmits data over a 433 MHz LoRaWAN network, so you need a compatible gateway within range. We show how to use a TTIG or Chirpstack gateway, and the AI companion helps you set up a local test gateway if needed.

Can I add a rain sensor or soil moisture probe later?

The Arduino Nano has spare analog and digital pins. You can connect additional sensors, modify the code, and send the extra bytes in the LoRaWAN payload — the AI companion gives you pointers on extending the project.

Will I be able to see the decoded data immediately?

Once your node joins the Chirpstack server successfully, the server automatically decodes the payload we pre‑configure. Temperature, humidity, and pressure readings will appear on the device dashboard within seconds of the first uplink.

Greenhouse — RA-02 LoRa on Arduino joins a Chirpstack LoRaWAN server using OTAA. DHT22 data decoded by server.
