LoRaWAN Server Room Temperature Monitor Kit — Real-Time Data Centre Monitoring with Arduino & Chirpstack

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Intermediate Build Time: 4-5 hrs Age: 15-18 Skill: LoRaWAN node deployment & server decoding

Data centres demand constant environmental monitoring to prevent hardware failure. With this kit, you’ll build a battery-powered wireless sensor node that transmits temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure readings via LoRaWAN to a Chirpstack server, allowing you to monitor conditions remotely in real time.

What You'll Build

You’ll assemble a compact monitoring device around an Arduino Nano and RA-02 LoRa module, connecting DHT22 and BMP280 sensors. Then, using Over-The-Air Activation (OTAA), you’ll securely join the node to a Chirpstack LoRaWAN Network Server and decode the sensor payload into readable data on a dashboard. The finished node runs on a rechargeable LiPo battery, making it ideal for continuous deployment in a server rack.

What You'll Learn

  • Configure LoRaWAN OTAA activation and device provisioning
  • Set up and operate a Chirpstack open-source LoRaWAN server
  • Interface DHT22 and BMP280 sensors with Arduino for environmental sensing
  • Build a battery-powered IoT circuit with LiPo charging via TP4056

Who This Kit Is For

This intermediate kit is designed for B.Tech ECE/EEE students building IoT projects for semester assignments or the Smart India Hackathon. It’s also suitable for CBSE Class 11-12 students with prior Arduino experience, ATL Tinkering Lab mentors, and hobbyists participating in IoT competitions at NITs, IITs, VIT, or BITS Pilani.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Our AI build companion, accessed via the QR code in the box, walks you through each step. You can also reach out on WhatsApp for direct support.

Do I need a LoRaWAN gateway to use this?

Yes, the kit requires a LoRaWAN gateway within range. We provide guidance on using a low-cost single-channel gateway like a RAK7249, or you can connect to any public TTN-compatible gateway in your area.

Can I use this kit without Chirpstack?

Absolutely. LoRaWAN is a standard protocol, so you can connect the node to The Things Network, AWS IoT Core for LoRaWAN, or any other LoRaWAN Network Server. We provide detailed Chirpstack setup because it is free and self-hostable.

How long does the battery last?

With a 1000mAh LiPo and a transmission interval of 10 minutes, expect several days of operation. You can optimise battery life by increasing the sleep duration or using deep sleep modes on the Arduino.

Data Centre — RA-02 LoRa on Arduino joins a Chirpstack LoRaWAN server using OTAA. DHT22 data decoded by server.
