Rocket Telemetry & Vibration Logger Kit — Real-time LoRa Tracking with Arduino Nano

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Advanced Build Time: 8-10 hrs Age: 18-21 Skill: Real-time wireless telemetry

After launch, your rocket transmits its precise GPS coordinates, bearing, distance, and vibration signatures over LoRa to a receiver you hold. You’ll see on an OLED exactly where your rocket is coming down, how much tilt it experienced, and whether any abnormal vibrations occurred — data you can later analyze to refine your fin design, motor selection, or recovery system.

What You'll Build

A dual-radio telemetry system with a rocket-mounted Arduino Nano that reads GPS, accelerometer, and gyroscope data, packs it into LoRa packets, and a ground receiver that computes real-time bearing and distance to the descending payload. The OLED on the receiver instantly displays a live compass-style bearing and the distance in metres, so you walk straight to the landing point.

What You'll Learn

  • Wireless telemetry packet design and error checking over LoRa
  • Fusing GPS, MPU6050 accelerometer, and gyroscope data for motion tracking
  • Calculating bearing and distance between two GPS coordinates on a moving platform
  • Soldering and assembling a dual-board prototype system from scratch

Who This Kit Is For

B.Tech ECE, EEE, and aerospace enthusiasts working on Smart India Hackathon rocketry challenges or final-year projects will find the dual-radio LoRa architecture immediately useful. IIT, NIT, VIT, and BITS students running payload telemetry experiments can integrate the vibration logging for true in-flight failure analysis. It’s also a solid fit for advanced ATL tinkering lab mentors guiding students towards ISRO-inspired satellite recovery simulations.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Open the AI companion with the QR code. It walks you through wiring, code upload, and range testing. If you prefer, text us on WhatsApp and we'll personally debug your setup.

How far will the LoRa link work in an open field?

With the included 433MHz antennas and clear line of sight, expect reliable telemetry up to 2–3 kilometres. Ground reflections and terrain can reduce range, but the kit’s packet format includes checksums to avoid corrupted data.

Can I log vibration data during the rocket’s boost phase?

Yes. The MPU6050 streams 3-axis accelerometer and gyroscope data at 100 Hz; the Nano timestamps and sends it over LoRa. You can later plot the waveforms to detect resonance or motor imbalance.

Does this kit include code for the bearing and distance calculations?

Absolutely. The pre-loaded AI companion provides a fully commented Arduino sketch that implements the Haversine formula for bearing and distance, plus dynamic OLED updates so you can follow your rocket’s descent in real time.

Seismology — GPS-tracked rocket transmits position over LoRa to a hand-held receiver showing bearing and distance to land.
