Smart Garden Wildfire Risk Monitor Kit
Smart Garden Wildfire Risk Alert System with ESP32 & Canadian FWI Model
Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.
Imagine receiving an SMS the moment your garden’s microclimate crosses into extreme wildfire danger—before dry leaves and gusty winds create a hazard. This kit couples two soil moisture sensors, two DHT22s, and a hall-effect wind speed detector with an ESP32 that crunches the Canadian Fire Weather Index (FWI) model. The result is a real-time risk score shown on a 0.96-inch OLED and relayed via SIM800L GSM when thresholds break.
What You'll Build
You’ll assemble a weather-hardened station that fuses temperature, humidity, soil dryness, and wind speed into the six standard FWI components. A DS3231 RTC timestamps every reading onto a MicroSD card, while the ESP32 evaluates fire danger on the spot. When the index hits “extreme,” the system pushes an SMS alert to your phone—no WiFi dependence, just cellular reliability.
What You'll Learn
- Compute the Canadian Fire Weather Index from raw sensor streams using the official Forestry Canada algorithm
- Integrate a GSM module for outbound SMS alerts without a cloud relay
- Log multi-sensor time-series data to MicroSD with RTC-synchronised filenames
- Design a standalone, low-power monitoring node on a prototype PCB and house it in a waterproof enclosure

Who This Kit Is For
Agri-tech researchers building low-cost fire danger networks, B.Tech ECE/EEE students tackling Smart India Hackathon challenges, and farm owners in fire-prone belts like Uttarakhand or the Western Ghats. Also fits advanced ATL Tinkering Lab mentors and NIT/VIT final-year projects where environmental IoT meets real alerting.
Built and Backed by Compoden
Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We have spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.
What if I get stuck during the build?
Scan the QR code to open the AI companion for code snippets and wiring checks; you can also reach us on WhatsApp for human help.
Does this kit require a separate SIM card?
Yes, the SIM800L needs a 2G/4G SIM with SMS balance—any Indian prepaid SIM works. Power the module with the included LM2596 buck converter set to 4.2 V.
Can the FWI model work without wind speed?
The Canadian FWI requires wind speed; the A3144 Hall sensor paired with a anemometer cup (build your own with a small cup and magnet) provides the pulses the ESP32 counts to derive wind speed.
How long does the battery last in the field?
Two 18650 cells in parallel give roughly 6–8 days with hourly readings, longer if you add a small solar panel (not included) through the buck converter’s input.
Garden — Temperature, humidity, wind speed and soil moisture feed into Canadian FWI model. Display and SMS alert when risk is extreme.
