Line Follower Robot Kit: Master Motor Logic and Sensor Thresholds with Arduino Uno

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Beginner Build Time: 3-4 hrs Age: 5-15 Skill: Sensor threshold tuning & motor logic

Turn a simple set of parts into a robot that intelligently follows a black line — no remote control, no prior programming experience needed. This kit introduces the fundamentals of autonomous robotics by teaching you how IR sensors read contrast and Arduino translates that into motor commands. In just a few hours, a young maker sees code, sensors, and motion converge into a working robot that stays on track all by itself.

What You'll Build

A 2-wheel-drive robot that navigates along a tape path using two TCRT5000 infrared sensor modules. The robot adjusts its left and right motors in real time to stay on course, demonstrating closed-loop control in a tangible way. By the end of the build, you'll have a bot that can follow complex curves and straight lines on any contrasting floor.

What You'll Learn

  • How IR reflectance sensors detect light and dark surfaces
  • Setting sensor threshold values to distinguish the line from the floor
  • Programming Arduino to control motor direction and speed via an L298N driver
  • Assembling a robot chassis and wiring power distribution safely

Who This Kit Is For

Ideal for students exploring robotics for the first time — CBSE Class 6-10 project work, ATL Tinkering Lab activities, or any young maker aged 5-15 who wants to see code come to life. The guided build makes it a great parent-child weekend activity, while the AI companion ensures you're never stuck without help.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project — accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

Scan the QR code inside the box to start a chat with our AI companion, which was trained on this exact robot. You can also message us on WhatsApp for personalized help from our team.

Do I need to solder any components?

No soldering is required. All connections use jumper wires, and the motor driver has screw terminals. Simply plug sensors into the Arduino and mount parts on the chassis.

What surface works best for the line?

A light-colored floor with black electrical tape (tape not included) gives the highest contrast for the TCRT5000 sensors. Avoid glossy tiles that reflect too much IR light.

Can I power the robot without batteries while programming?

Yes. You can power the Arduino via USB from your laptop while uploading code. For autonomous movement, insert the two included 18650 cells into the holder and connect it to the motor driver.

Two IR sensors guide a 2WD bot along a black tape line. Teaches basic motor logic and sensor thresholds.
