ESP32 Fall Alert System with SMS & GPS

Every part needed, pre-tested for compatibility, with an AI build companion trained on this exact project. Shipped from Bengaluru in 3-5 days.

Difficulty: Advanced Build Time: 8-10 hours Age: 21-24 Skill: Gesture recognition & emergency response system integration

Imagine a wearable wand that instantly detects a sudden fall or impact-then automatically sends an SMS alert with your exact GPS location to a family member or caregiver. This kit turns that life-saving idea into a working prototype. By combining an MPU6050 inertial sensor with an ESP32, SIM800L GSM module, and NEO-6M GPS, you build a fully functional gesture-based emergency response system in a compact, battery-powered enclosure. Ideal for B.Tech final-year projects, Smart India Hackathon prototypes, or hands-on experimentation with wearable safety tech.

What You'll Build

You will create a portable gesture wand that continuously monitors accelerometer and gyroscope data to recognise free-fall and high-impact acceleration signatures characteristic of a fall. Once triggered, the ESP32 powers the active buzzer for immediate local alert, simultaneously fetching coordinates from the GPS module and sending a pre-formatted SMS via the SIM800L. The entire circuit runs off a rechargeable LiPo cell with voltage regulation and filtering, all packaged inside the included enclosure.

What You'll Learn

  • Sensor fusion for motion detection - extracting orientation and acceleration features from MPU6050 data to identify fall patterns
  • GSM communication - configuring the SIM800L module with AT commands to send text messages programmatically
  • GPS parsing - reading NMEA sentences from the NEO-6M, extracting latitude and longitude for real-time tracking
  • Power management for wearables - stepping down LiPo voltage with the LM2596 converter, charging via TP4056, and adding sufficient bulk and decoupling capacitors to reduce GSM current spikes

Who This Kit Is For

This advanced kit is built for B.Tech ECE/EEE students working on final-year wearable health or emergency response projects. It's equally suited for Smart India Hackathon teams needing a ready-to-prototype safety device, and for researchers at IIT, NIT, VIT, or BITS exploring gesture-driven IoT applications. ATL tinkering labs can use it only with advanced mentors due to the soldering and GSM integration involved.

Built and Backed by Compoden

Every Compoden kit ships with an AI build companion trained on this exact project - accessible via a QR code on the box, with WhatsApp and email backup. We've spent 10 years building projects for makers, schools, and institutions across India. If a part fails because of a manufacturing defect, replace it free within 7 days.

What if I get stuck during the build?

You can scan the QR code inside the box to activate the AI companion, which walks through every connection and code block. If you need human help, WhatsApp support is included - the team can even video-debug your circuit.

Can I change the emergency contact number and SMS message text?

Yes, the firmware is fully open. You can modify the phone number and message content inside the ESP32 code, and even add multiple recipients via the AI-guided template.

Does the SIM800L module work with current Indian networks?

It operates on 2G GSM networks, which remain active across India for SMS services. You can use any standard 2G/3G/4G SIM with SMS plan; airtel and Vi have wide coverage. The AI companion includes AT command tuning for reliable delivery.

The kit includes a soldering iron - do I need prior soldering experience?

Some basic soldering skill is recommended because you'll assemble the power section, sensor headers, and GSM antenna on the prototype board. The AI companion includes close-up soldering guides and common mistake fixes, making it manageable even if you're new to advanced soldering.

Gesture - MPU6050 detects free-fall + impact. ESP32 sends SMS + GPS coordinates via GSM immediately.
